EAST Ayrshire residents are being warned that the council-run recycling centre near Cumnock is to close for upgrade works.

The Garlaff recycling facility on Skares Road will be shut from Tuesday, September 26 until Friday, September 29.

It will reopen on the weekend of September 30 and October 1, but will then close again from Monday, October 2.

East Ayrshire Council says the work is weather dependent, which could lead to some delays, but that the second closure is currently expected to last until Saturday, October 7.

A council spokesperson said: "The team based at Garlaff will be moved to Western Road recycling centre in Kilmarnock during both closure periods. This will allow the centre to provide 800 more appointments.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential works."

The council acquired the Garlaff site from Barr Environmental in December 2022.
