MEMBERS of a Doon Valley recovery support group have joined in an annual event to mark International Overdose Awareness Day.

The team from the recovery support group at The Zone in Dalmellington joined in a walk through Kilmarnock on Thursday, August 31, along with other staff and service users from the East Ayrshire Recovery Hub and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs.

The event was also organised to help highlight where people whose lives are affected by drug use can get support and how they can access the life-saving Naloxone and Nyxoid medications, which can reverse the effects of opioid overdose.

At the end of the walk, guest speakers joined the recovery community in a 'rose ceremony' to remember loved ones who have been lost to drugs.

A spokesperson for the group from The Zone said: "An amazing day, going over and above to show the services available to make recovery possible."
