A warm-hearted Cumnock man said he's out to make memories with his best pal.

Gary Mullen was spotted taking four-legged friend, MacTavish out on adventures, with his dog in a wheelbarrow.

Gary says it's a great way for him to be able to take his loving pooch on all of his same trails, but with the added assistance due to MacTavish now being 14 years old.

Having lived in Cumnock all his days, Gary has become used to going on daily walks and exploring all the local countryside has to offer.

Now he has his mind set on making sure he and MacTavish can still enjoy the experience together.

"Me and my pal used to go out and we'd take wood and coal and stuff in the wheelbarrow, so I thought that would be a good idea to take the dog out in that now since he's getting a bit older," Gary said.

"It lets me take him on longer walks that he might not be able to manage now so I can wheel him for a wee bit and then he can walk for a wee bit.

"I've had him since he was a puppy and we've been on some great adventures. I couldn't live with a person, now, I don't think.

"I lost my dad to dementia, so stuff like this keeps me ticking over and keeps mind focused on something.

"I'm on my second stage of testing for dementia, so being able to go out with the dog in the wheelbarrow and being able to take my mind off stuff is brilliant."

Having posted his friendly walks on social media, Gary was met with great feedback for his caring idea.

It's led Gary to thinking about how he can upgrade MacTavish's mode of transport.

Gary added: "It's a big bad world out there, so if something like this can put a smile on somebody's face for a few minutes then I'm happy with that.

"It's great getting out and getting MacTavish out.

"I might have to look at how I can upgrade the wheelbarrow by putting MacTavish's name on it, or painting it black and white.

"If folk see me out then don't be afraid to give me a wee toot and a wave".
