A boy's club cried foul after exploratory drilling left them without a playing field.

The test boring which took place on the playing fields at Patna was carried out to see if the site was suitable for the merger between Patna Primary and St Xavier’s Primary School in Waterside.

Head coach of the Doon Valley Colts, Hugh Kirkwood, phoned up to book the park opposite Patna but was told it would be unavailable.

He said: “The council should have informed teams this was going on.”

Councillor Douglas Reid, leader of the East Ayrshire Council, visited the Taiglum Burn in August 2008 and met with councillors Elaine Dinwoodie, Drew Filson, James Sutherland as well as Bill Gibson and John Nimmo, from the Drongan Tenants and Residents Association, to hear plans for the regeneration of the burn.

A small group of walkers from East Ayrshire Council and Muirkirk took to the River Ayr Way during Muirkirk and Catrine’s annual walking festival, covering 18 miles along the route and raising £1370 for Ayrshire Cancer Support.
