A two-car crash caused a temporary closure of a section of the A76 last night, according to police.

The incident happened just after 5pm on August 3 on the Howford Bridge, south of Mauchline.

Police were seen diverting traffic along an alternative route while recovery of the vehicles was carried out.

It's not believed any serious injuries were caused by the incident, with drivers and passengers being checked iver at the scene.

The road re-opened shortly before 7pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: "Around 5.15pm on Thursday, August 3, 2023 we were called to a report of a two car crash on the A76, Howford Bridge. 

"Emergency services attended and the occupants of the cars were checked over by paramedics at the scene. 

"The road was closed while recovery was arranged and reopened around 6.50pm."
