Muirkirk Community Fire Station is on the lookout for more members to join the team.

Anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter to keep the station running and support safety in the community is welcome to get in touch.

As part of its latest recruitment drive, Watch Commander, George Kelly, said it can be the most rewarding job in the world.

He said: "I've been a firefighter for 17-and-a-half years.

"Being part of the community and working within the community when you're really required is really so rewarding.

"Learning new skills is essential, and you'll learn transferable skills, as well.

"[You'll learn about] first aid, trauma, and being to work as part of a team.

"Being an on-call firefighter involves carrying a pager, and responding to incidents when required.

"You'll learn many new skills that you can use in day-to-day life such as enhanced first aid, CPR, increased awareness of health and safety, and also being a vital asset to the community when it needs you the most."
