Brian McGinty has left Cumnock Juniors just over a week after delivering the top prize for the Townhead Park side.

McGinty oversaw Cumnock's third triumph in the Scottish Junior Cup earlier this month, as his side defeated Rutherglen Glencairn 1-0 in the final.

The club have said that their legendary manager leaves the club due to "health reasons".

McGinty joined the Townhead Park side in November 2021, and will forever be remembered for their historic achievements in Cumbernauld.

The outgoing boss said that he experienced his two greatest days in football over the past week-and-a-half.

His assistant, Steven Aitchison will also leave the club.

Announcing his decision to leave, McGinty said: "It is with great regret that I have decided to stand down as the manager of Cumnock Juniors.

"[It's] a special club with amazing people that took a chance on me as a young player and gave me the opportunity to play and return to senior football before years later allowing me to manage the club and providing the players and coaching staff with the support to achieve something special in winning the Scottish Junior Cup."

He added: "In recent months I have found the pressure and stress I have put myself under having an adverse effect on my health.

"Having suffered in the past with similar, I know I have to take control of these issues before they develop into something more serious, which has led me to this difficult decision.

"Friday at Broadwood and Saturday in Cumnock have been my two greatest days in football and will live with me forever.

"I had fully expected that coming out the other side would improve the way I was feeling, and allow me to carry on with the plans we were making for next season.

"That hasn’t been the case, and I feel I owe it to the club and the players to make this decision sooner rather than later, to allow them to prepare properly for the new season."

McGinty concluded: "I have so many people to thank and will do so individually but to the committee, volunteers and supporters you cannot achieve what we did without everyone being together.

"To the players, we have had many ups and downs together over the season, but you are fantastic group of individuals who over a season became a team and gave everything you had until that very final whistle at Broadwood - which has rightly made you legends of our great club.

"Thank you all."
