VOLUNTEERS across East Ayrshire have been given a heartfelt message of thanks for their "incredible efforts" on behalf of their communities.

The message came from Eddie Fraser, the chief executive of East Ayrshire Council (EAC), to mark Volunteers' Week.

The week, running from June 1-7, is an annual celebration of the work done by those right across the UK.

Mr Fraser paid a special tribute to those from East Ayrshire who were selected as part of the Coronation Champions Award.

The council boss said the council is incredibly "grateful" to those who do their bit in their communities.

Mr Fraser said: "During this year's Volunteers' Week, and indeed all year round, we are so grateful to out volunteers who work selflessly to help those who need it most.

"Your time and your kindness make a real difference to the lives of others, and my thanks go to all of you for your incredible efforts.

"We were recently delighted to hear that as part of the coronation celebrations, we had five East Ayrshire residents receiving the Coronation Champions award for the valuable contribution they make to their communities.

"They were chosen out of only 500 winners across the UK.

"For East Ayrshire to have five within that group is a fantastic achievement."

"Thank you all again for everything you do for our communities".
