The U13 side started the school year with just six rugby players and finished the season as Ayrshire Schools champions with 25 players, showcasing the hard work of coaches and staff across evening training and School of Rugby sessions.

The U13s were undefeated across the Summer League with some outstanding tries being scored through hard running and moving the ball into space quickly.

The U14 league was a much tighter affair with close games against Marr College Bs and Belmont Academy. Some strong ball carrying and tackling helped out and ensured that the U14s were also undefeated.

The group benefits from RBA's School of Rugby with curriculum timetabled lessons specifically on developing the group’s game sense and games-based skills.

The U16 team, which was a combination of S3 and S4 sides, showcased some brilliant attacking rugby with each ball carrier having multiple options in attack and some aggressive tackling in defence, making them the third undefeated team from the school throughout the Summer League.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, cabinet spokesperson for lifelong learning, education and skills and culture said: “I would like to offer congratulations to the three undefeated teams from The Robert Burns Academy/ Cumnock rugby.

"Their success is quite incredible and demonstrates the determination and hard-work of everyone involved. We are all very proud of you.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Stephen Raby, head of rugby from The Robert Burns Academy, who is the architect of their success.”
