A GLASGOW shopper has completed a supermarket sweep-style challenge in a city Aldi store.

Shannon Wallace won an in-store competition to take part in the five-minute trolly dash in the Gorbals supermarket on Sunday, May 21.

She has raised £611.98 for Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank while picking up £305.99 in Aldi favourites for herself by grabbing goodies from the aisles of the Crown Street store in the Southside.

As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, Shannon successfully found the hidden inflatable in store, meaning Aldi Scotland doubled the total value of her haul and donated the lump sum to her nominated charity.

She said: "I had great fun and was so happy to have had the opportunity to collect goodies for myself, whilst supporting my local foodbank. Thanks to the Aldi staff who made it such a great night.”

Katharina Nimmo, manager at Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank, added: “A huge thank you to Shannon for choosing us as the charity to benefit from her trolley dash. We support families in crisis in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area and rely entirely on donations.

“Demand has gone up dramatically in the last year and we’re helping more people than ever. As we rely entirely on donations from the community this will make a real difference to us and enable us to continue offering support to those who need it.”

Richard Holloway, regional managing director for Scotland, said: “We are proud that the Aldi Supermarket Sweep is a firm favourite across the country, and we are so pleased to bring it back this year. Congratulations to Shannon who managed to raise an incredible £611.98 for Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank and snap up a whole load of Aldi treats for herself.”
