East Ayrshire has been named in the top 10 most affordable places to live in the UK by a recent study.

PlumbNation explored how the average cost of properties and utilities rose over the past decade, and revealed the gap between house prices and wages to determine the most affordable areas.

East Ayrshire was ranked seventh in the UK and fourth in Scotland, with an average annual pay of £28,605.

The average house price in East Ayrshire stands at £125,528, which is 4.39 per cent salary to price ratio.

Burnley was ranked as the most affordable place, with a ratio of 4.08 per cent, closely followed by North Ayrshire, who claimed the most affordable title in Scotland, with a ratio of 4.13 per cent.

The housing affordability study comes shortly after East Ayrshire was also ranked inside the top 10 most dangerous places to live in Scotland.

East Ayrshire also has the joint-highest percentage of adults classed as being overweight or obese in Scotland, according to a separate study.
