Police are investigating a "wilful" fire that was started in Cumnock in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly after midnight on May 15, police and fire crews were called to reports of a garage on fire in the town's McClymont Court.

Emergency services, including two fire engines, were still present at this scene later this morning.

It's believed at least one vehicle was badly damaged in this incident, but nobody has been hurt.

Police are treating the fire as being started deliberately, and are looking to find out how the fire was started.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20am on Monday, May 15, 2023, police were called to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service following a report of a fire at McClymont Court, Cumnock. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident 0194 of 15 May. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "We were alerted at 00.30am on Monday, May 15 to reports of a domestic garage on fire in Cumnock.

"Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the town's McClymont Court, where firefighters were met by a fire affecting five garages.

"Crews extinguished the fire and thereafter left the scene.

"There were no casualties."
