A talented architect who designed one of the iconic buildings on Dumfries House's estate has won a prestigious award.

Laura Hattrup has been named as this year’s recipient of the Award for Emerging Excellence in the Classical Tradition, sponsored by The Prince’s Foundation, INTBAU, and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.

Laura was part of the The Prince's Foundation's 2013 Summer School.

During this, Laura won the design competition for the Woodland Shelter that now stands proudly in The Maguire Arboretum at the heart of Dumfries House estate.

Laura is now making her way in the architecture world with her own organisation, The Architecture Company.

Delighted about receiving the award, Laura had huge praise for how much The Prince's Foundation's programme helped her on her way.

Laura said: “I am honoured to be the recipient of this year’s award.

“It is wonderful to be acknowledged for my work, especially as my own firm – The Architecture Company – is in its infancy. The opportunities I received through The Prince’s Foundation opened my eyes to different paths and a much bigger world of possibilities.

"I am incredibly grateful for those experiences, especially my early work on the Woodland Shelter at Dumfries House.

"Winning a design competition as a young architect and realising the design over the ten-week Live Build was instrumental in building my confidence.

"Seeing your design come alive gives credence to one’s ideas and intuition.

"Also, the opportunity to collaborate with a team of building craft apprentices added a whole other facet to the experience, ultimately enriching and elevating the design.”
