Eight Herculean members of a Cumnock gym will represent the area on the British stage this year.

The members of The Unit at Thistle Business Park will head to Britain's Natural Strongman Federation (BNSF) final in July, after success at the Scottish finals - held in Cumnock last weekend.

The great eight all secured podium places last week, meaning they secured their spots at the British event this year.

They'll take part in an 8-event competition on July 8 and 9, with the top three qualifying for the World finals in Finland in September.

Made up of police officers, a road engineer, computer engineer, Slimming World consultant, baker, trainee nurse and a school cook, the group secured some very impressive finished.

The podium places from The Unit group were:

  • Men's open winner: Dougie Black
  • Men's Masters 2nd: David McCutcheon
  • Men's u-105kg 3rd: Craig Reid
  • Men's u-90kg 3rd: Ian Easterbrook
