STUDENTS, parents, staff and friends from the Barony Campus are set to take on a 10K race to raise money for a Cumnock charity.

The dedicated team of 40 runners will be raising money for Cumnock-based young people's organisation Yipworld at the 'Roon The Toon 10K' in Kilmarnock.

Led once again by popular Academy teacher, Bernard Shepherd, the fit team will aim to stack up as much cash as they can to help the charitable organisation at the event on Sunday, June 11.

Kilmarnock's famous 'Roon the Toon' welcomes runners from right across Scotland for the annual event.

A sopkesperson for the campus said that funds raised will be vital in supporting people right here in our own community.

They said: "Like all areas in the country the cost of living crisis has had a negative impact on the day to day lives of those living with hardship.

"The Barony Campus is a caring and compassionate community who regularly go above and beyond to help all of the young people within all of the establishments.

"In particular the staff, students, parents and friends of Robert Burns Academy have for some years held a major fund-raising activity for various charities.

"For this event all eligible members of the Barony Campus were invited to take part.

"Any funds raised will be disbursed by Yipworld as they deem necessary to help those in need in the local community.

"This could range from buying bedding, footwear, buying food or anything that the young people would benefit from in a physical or mental wellbeing capacity as well as supporting already established group events like after school clubs, Pedal up Programme and a Senior Drop in Club."
