A WELL-KNOWN Cumnock shop owner is doing her bit to raise awareness for a cause close to her heart.

Marion Gilliland, who goes to extraordinary lengths to help her town and townsfolk, sadly suffered a stroke last year.

Still on the mend, Marion now wants to highlight the importance of reacting to a stroke in the correct way - all while giving people the chance to win some great prizes in her raffle.

Marion, who was last year named High Street Hero at the Scotland Loves Local Awards, is incorporating the Stroke Association's 'FAST' acronym into the raffle.

People have the chance to win prizes by liking and sharing Marion's post on her Presents and Correct Facebook page, and commenting 'F- Face, A- Arms, S- Speech, T-Time' in order to raise awareness for how to deal with a stroke.

Speaking on her page about wanting to spread the word, Marion said: "The purpose of it is to raise a bit of awareness about strokes.

"This means quite a bit to myself, having experienced a stroke, which was nearly six months ago.

"We're going to set up a giveaway, relating to a stroke.

"FAST is the main thing that you'd be asked to look for.

"For us to do a giveaway and raise awareness at the same time, I'm going to give away four items in the shop."

Marion added: "For me, the way I make things work and stay in my head quicker is actually write it down or type it down.

"Then you'll not forget what FAST stands for and what actions you would need to take if you were in the environment with someone you felt had had a stroke."

Marion's brilliant giveaway will run until Saturday, April 29, when the winners will be drawn through a generator.
