Howford Bridge drivers should have road relief after tomorrow as the temporary lights on the road are set to be removed.

According to roads bosses Amey, phase two of the work on the bridge is set to end tomorrow.

Drivers have been faced with on-and-off temporary lights on the bridge since last year, when investigation work was carried out due to drainage issues being identified on the structure.

Many locals who use the road on a daily basis described the works as a "nightmare".

Southbound carriageway work started on Monday, February 27, after preparation work had taken place a few weeks prior, and northbound work taking place before Christmas.

Work began once again to repair parts of the Howford Bridge, with temporary traffic lights being used whilst the works are carried out.

The work was initially set to be finished by Friday, April 7.

However, it was then announced that the work was scheduled to be finished a week later, to accommodate for the Easter weekend.

An Amey spokesperson said previously: "In order to accommodate the Easter Weekend, works on the A76 Howford Bridge are now due to finish on Friday 14th April 2023.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
