The new building had been abandoned for more than a decade before the family took it over.

Now, more than two years since they took it on, the family and business are delighted with how they've managed to give a new purpose to what was previously a dilapidated and deteriorating building.

The firm's new premises feature purpose-built rooms, as well as carefully-designed spaces to give grieving families the privacy they need.

Mr Muir said: "The building was totally cleared out and stripped back to the original brick walls.

"The work consisted of new flat roofs, new walls, ceilings, floors, partitions, a full rewire, replumb, fire and intruder alarm system, new windows and doors, air-to-air heat pumps and a CCTV security system.

"The building now has an entrance reception, seated service hall, viewing rooms, offices, meeting rooms, a mortuary room and a cold room, as well as ladies, gents and disabled toilets.
