East Ayrshire has been named one of the cheapest places to buy a home in the UK, making it one of two Ayrshire council areas on the list.

This comes as many first-time buyers look around for their first home amid rising inflation and high-interest rates.

While many base their decision to buy a property on factors like local schools and where their family and friends live, many also look at lower prices.

With all that said, the property experts over at Online Mortgage Advisor have analysed the average house price in every UK local authority to find the 10 cheapest for 2023.

East Ayrshire named among the cheapest places to buy a home

East Ayrshire was ranked the third cheapest place to buy a house in the UK, beating places like County Durham and North Lanarkshire.

East Ayrshire had an average house price of £124,672.64 with the experts praising the region as a "hidden gem".

They said: "Located in the stunning Scottish countryside, East Ayrshire is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

"Its charming towns and villages are steeped in history and culture, with plenty of exciting things to see and do.

"Delve into the local cuisine at one of the many gourmet restaurants, or simply relax in the tranquil surroundings of one of East Ayrshire's many picturesque parks or gardens.

"With so much to offer, this is undoubtedly one of Scotland's most captivating regions."

North Ayrshire was also on the list at number six and was noted for its "breath-taking scenic views" and "warm community spirit".
