A RECOVERY support group in Auchinleck has been looking back on its first year in the local community.

The ACDI Recovery group, part of the East Ayrshire Recovery Hub, was set up on March 7, 2022 at the Auchinleck Community Development Initiative’s base at the Boswell Centre.

Since then engagement worker Janet Smith has worked with more than 100 people with alcohol and drug issues from Auchinleck, Cumnock, New Cumnock, Muirkirk, Logan, Mauchline and Catrine.

In a post on social media she said: “Throughout the project I have been able to engage with over 100 people with alcohol and drug issues. Many of them now attend our groups, The Lost Girls, Art Club, The Cabin Crew and the ever popular Brunch at Boswell.

“A big thank you to East Ayrshire Recovery Hub, The East Ayrshire Recovery Network and all the guys at We Are With You, but a special thanks to my fellow CREW colleagues, especially Nicola Higgins from The Zone - Recovery Support Group in Dalmellington.”

Some members of the group attended a ‘stigma roadshow’ in Dalmellington on Saturday, featuring silent discos, boxing sessions, delicious soup and a chance to find out more about community work being done in the Doon Valley area.

A similar event will be held at the Knowe Garden Centre in Auchinleck this Saturday, March 18, from 1-3pm.

All are welcome to come along and find out more about the project.
