TRAIN passengers in East Ayrshire faced major disruption after ScotRail reported the cancellation of almost all services in the area.
Services were suspended at Kilmarnock, Auchinleck, New Cumnock, Kirkconnel and Sanquhar stations on Friday morning.
ScotRail warned that services were cancelled on the Glasgow-Kilmarnock and Glasgow-Dumfries-Carlisle routes, and there were alterations to services on the Kilmarnock-Stranraer line via Ayr and Girvan.
Services were also being disrupted on some suburban routes on the south side of Glasgow.
The rail operator said the disruption was because of a fault with the signalling system in the Muirhouse area, near Glasgow Central station, which affected all services on the routes to Kilmarnock, Carlisle via Dumfries, Barrhead, Neilston, Newton and East Kilbride.

ScotRail initially said the disruption was expected to last until 10am, but later announced that the fault had been fixed shortly before 9am.
