A NEW Cumnock pensioner has been bailed after an alleged assault on her husband just before Valentine’s Day.
Pembelina McGuigan, 68, appeared from custody at Ayr Sheriff Court last week, requiring assistance from security staff to get in the dock.
Ms McGuigan faces a charge of allegedly assaulting her husband at his separate address in James Young Avenue, Cumnock, on Monday, February 13.
Court papers claim Ms McGuigan, of Afton Bridgend, New Cumnock attacked the man by repeatedly punching and slapping him on the head.
However, when prosecutors objected to a defence application for bail, Sheriff John Montgomery compared being struck by Ms McGuigan – who denies the allegation – to being ‘smacked with a wet sponge’.
Bail was granted, on the condition that Ms McGuigan not return to the address where the incident is alleged to have taken place.
She is due to return to court to face trial later in the year.
