An Ayrshire woman who starred in a controversial BBC reality show has appeared in court charged with dealing heroin in Cumnock.

Dayna McLaughlan, 31, appeared in the dock at Ayr Sheriff Court last week accused of being concerned in the supply of the class A drug from an address in the town’s Wylie Crescent on August 2, 2021.

Ms McLaughlan appeared in The Scheme, broadcast by the BBC in 2010 and 2011.

The Crown’s complaint claims the alleged offence was committed while Ms McLaughlan was the subject of two bail orders, issued at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on August 20, 2020 and at Ayr Sheriff Court on June 29, 2021.

At a hearing on Wednesday, February 8, defence solicitor Sandy Currie told Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart his client was pleading not guilty to the charge.

Mr Currie added that Ms McLaughlan intended to lodge a special defence of incrimination.

The case was continued to a trial scheduled for later this year.
