East Ayrshire schools will be closed as teachers walk out over the ongoing pay dispute.

All secondary and primary schools in the area will be closed on Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 1.

It is expected that Early Childhood Centres will open as normal.

However, East Ayrshire Council say that they are aware that a revised pay offer might be made this week.

Parents and carers will be notified as quickly as possible if there are any changes as a result of this.

Teachers walked out last month and lobbied at East Ayrshire Council's headquarters in Kilmarnock.

The strike took place after the EIS sought a 10 per cent pay rise.

Scotland’s Education Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville has previously said that the 10 per cent teachers are demanding is unaffordable.

Linda McAulay-Griffiths, Chief Education Officer and Head of Education has written to all parents and carers regarding the announcement of industrial action by teaching trade unions.

Free 'grab and go' lunches will be available from your nearest school between 10am and 1pm on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March.
