Staff from University Hospital Crosshouse have thanked SPAR Scotland for their "extremely generous" donation of £1,000.

Representatives from the company’s wholesaler, CJ Lang & Son Ltd, visited the hospital on January 20 to present the cheque which will be added to the hospital's endowment fund to benefit patients and staff.

Workers from the Crosshouse store, Shannon Kenneth and Julie Carr, set up a stall in the hospital as they gave away SPAR goods and merchandise to staff.

The hospital’s acute site director, Jacqueline Nicol, said: “We are incredibly grateful to SPAR Scotland for their extremely generous donation.

“And thank you so much to Shannon and Julie for coming along on the day.”

The fund has been used to pay for a range of necessities for the hospital and staff such as medical research and advanced training as well as physiotherapy aids and toys for the children's ward.

Hospital workers were also given a discount code to use on ‘COOK’ frozen meals in SPAR shops as well as the chance to win prizes via a spinning wheel.

SPAR Scotland’s marketing manager, Paula Middleton, said: “Community is really important to SPAR Scotland and we like to support local organisations and charities whenever we can.

“We recently relaunched our newly refurbished store in Crosshouse and engaging with the community was a big part of that relaunch.

“With our store being so close by, we know that a lot of the staff at University Hospital Crosshouse visit regularly, so this was our way to say thank you for supporting us and thank you for all that you do.”
