A TEENAGE girl has been taken to hospital after a crash in Mauchline at the weekend.

The incident happened at around 11.30am on Saturday, January 28, close to the Burns Memorial.

The road was closed for around two hours for investigation work to be carried out.

The 14-year-old girl, who was a pedestrian, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

A 77-year-old male driver has been reported to the fiscal in connection with alleged road traffic offences.

Eye-witnesses said it looked as if the girl had been hit by a car.

Drivers were diverted via Galston while the road was closed to allow investigations to take place.

The current condition of the girl is not yet known.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: "Around 11.30am on Saturday, 28 January, 2023 officers were called to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on the A76, Mauchline, East Ayrshire. 

"The pedestrian, a 14-year-old female, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Crosshouse.

"The 77-year-old male driver of the vehicle will be reported in connection with road traffic offences. 

"The road was closed while investigations were carried out and reopened around 1.30pm."
