After laying the wreaths, they all enjoyed a much-needed warm drink, along with some cake, as they enjoyed an afternoon of song and poems.

Elena Whitham MSP said: "It was a great honour to be invited by the Mauchline Burns Club to lay a wreath at their yearly memorial to our national bard.

"Thank you to all involved and the ladies who supplied us with a much needed warming cuppa and cake in the Pavilion afterwards as we were treated to an afternoon of poem and song".

Cllr Linda Holland added: "I was delighted and honoured to have been invited along to the Burns Memorial event in Mauchline by the Mauchline Burns Club.

"I laid a wreath on behalf of East Ayrshire Labour Group at the event, along with MP/MSP/Provost, other elected members and various local clubs and societies.

"A wet and windy afternoon, but an excellent turnout.

"Well done to all concerned in organising this event, a credit to the area."
