Temporary traffic lights in Cumnock, described as a 'nightmare' could be in place for up to a week.

Four-way traffic lights are currently in place along Cumnock's Ayr Road, causing congestions for thos accessing Aldi, the Barony Campus and the road towards Jewson.

Work began on Monday (January 16) and it could be a week before the lights are removed.

Scottish Water are carrying out the work to repair a leak at a meter, with the estimated duration of the work scheduled as a maximum of eight days.

The work has already been causing issues with road users, especially those accessing the road around school drop-off and pick-up times.

One driver said: "It really is a nightmare. You can't seem to drive 200 yards around here without some temporary lights or road closure in place at one point.

"It's absolutely chaos in the morning when the busses are dropping kids off from school and because of the traffic it means that cars end up blocking the roads by the time the lights change.

"As if there wasn't enough traffic in the morning, this is the last thing we need for a few more days".
