Further maintenance work and subsequent traffic management is due to take place on the A76's Howford Bridge in March.

This work is in addition to what is currently going on at the bridge, with no official end date set for these works.

Essential repair work was carried out on the northbound carriageway of the bridge between October and December.

Investigation work was carried out in September due to drainage issues being identified on the bridge.

The findings from these investigations have informed the permanent repair programme, with southbound work scheduled for 2023.

After being delayed a number of times, work on the first phase of the bridge was completed just before Christmas.

Drivers had been venting their frustrations earlier this month about the "lack of work" taking place on the road during days of good weather.

Despite traffic lights on the bridge and work currently being carried out, Amey- who are taking on the work- have said that separate work will take place in March, with current work being preparatory.

A spokesperson for Amey, the company responsible for maintaining the south west trunk road network, said: “The next phase of maintenance works on the A76 Howford Bridge are planned to commence in March 2023, as previously announced.

"Current traffic management on the bridge is part of our preparatory investigation work.

More information about this second phase of the scheme, and the dates of this work, will be published in advance and on our website.
