Footpath and drainage improvement works will be carried out in Sanquhar at the end of the month.

Work on the A76 High Street in the village will start on Monday, January 23 for 12 weeks.

During this time short, phased footpath and carriageway closures will be used between 8am and 5pm, each day.

The work will take place between Sanquhar Library and Sanquhar Tolbooth.

Localised parking bay restrictions will be implemented on a rolling basis as the work progresses along the carriageway.

Works will be carried out using temporary traffic lights, and a signed diversion will not be required. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Access for pedestrians and adjacent properties and businesses will be maintained.

This work marks the final phase of improvement works on the trunk road network in Sanquhar.

The scheme will hope to benefit around 4,500 vehicles travelling this route each day and will benefit pedestrians and other road users by improving the condition of the footpaths on this section of the main road through Sanquhar.

The work also takes into consideration requests from the community council to upgrade the drainage system along the footway.

Amey, who will be carrying out the work, thank road users in advance for their patience, understanding and co-operation while this essential work takes place.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
