A WOMAN stole cash from a parked car after brandishing a pair of blades at police in Cumnock.

Chloe Mackenzie admitted entering an unsecured vehicle and stealing £40 from purse inside it at Riecawr Avenue in Bellsbank on August 23, 2021.

The 27-year-old also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner towards two cops while in possession of the blades in Keir Hardie Hill, Cumnock on May 21 of the same year.

She then went on to assault a female police officer.

Mackenzie appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court for sentencing last week after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

Describing the Bellsbank theft, the procurator fiscal depute told the January 4 hearing: “The owner of the vehicle parked outside the locus at 8.15am on August 23, 2021 in the course of her employment attending a house visit.

“A purse was within the door pocket of the vehicle, with £40 in cash.

“Returning 15 minutes later, she thought it odd her bank card was now in the driver’s footwell.

“On checking the contents of the purse, £40 cash had been taken from it.

“The complainer knew a nearby property had CCTV. Ms MacKenzie appeared on the footage, entering, then sitting in the vehicle, thereafter leaving.

“Police were contacted and made efforts to trace her which were not successful.”

Ms Mackenzie was not formally cautioned or charged but a report was submitted to the procurator fiscal’s office.

Turning to the Cumnock incident, the fiscal depute continued: “At 1am on May 21, 2021, a 999 call was received and officers attended the locus in relation to other matters. Ms MacKenzie was in the bedroom of the locus.

“She went into the kitchen on the police’s arrival, confronting officers with a knife in each hand, pointing them at police witnesses.

“They engaged with Ms Mackenzie, who placed the knives out of reach.

“She was handcuffed and verbally abusive to officers.

“She was taken to a marked police van by officers where Ms Mackenzie kicked out at a constable to the face."

Defence solicitor Steven Maxwell asked for sentencing to be deferred for his client to demonstrate good behaviour after her previous “chaotic living arrangements”.

Sheriff Shirley Foran said: “You know what you need to be doing here to persuade me.”

Mackenzie will return to court for sentencing next month.
