A MAN has appeared in court accused of attempting to rape a woman while holding three people hostage at a house in Cumnock.

Adrian McGee, 46, appeared from custody at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Mr McGee is accused of detaining two men and a woman while armed with a knife at a property in the town’s Herdston Place on April 22 and 23, 2022.

He faces a second charge of assault with intent to rape after allegedly beating the woman and demanding she have sex with him.

The Crown indictment alleges that Mr McGee, currently an inmate at Barlinnie prison in Glasgow, abducted the three people while brandishing a blade and threatening violence.

It’s claimed he also took possession of the trio’s mobile phones and house keys while refusing to let them leave.

He allegedly presented a knife at the woman and held it to her neck before repeatedly punching her in the head.

The charge claims that the woman then fell to the ground and struck a table.

It’s alleged that Mr McGee repeatedly struck the woman on the body with the blade while demanding she removed her clothing.

He then allegedly removed his own clothing, exposing himself, and demanded she perform a sex act on him.

Mr McGee is also accused of demanding that the woman have intercourse with him and of threatening to murder her.

At the January 4 hearing, Mr McGee’s solicitor, Robert Logan, said his client was pleading not guilty to all the charges against him.

The case was adjourned until later this year and the accused was returned to custody.
