Glaisnock Street could be fully reopen to cars in three months, according to East Ayrshire Council.

The road initially closed completely to traffic in October 2021, when part of the wall of the adjacent pub building had become unstable and fell on the footpath and road.

Now it looks like the road could finally be reopened by as soon as April 2023.

In November 2021, a one-way system was put in operation, allowing cars to drive from Townhead Street towards Glaisnock Street and Ayr Road, but not in the opposite direction.

At that time, shop owners were told it would be the end of January 2022 before the road would fully reopen.

After much deliberation about how best to deal with the situation and issues tracking down the building's legal owner, a decision was made in August to restore the building to a safe condition and list it for sale on the market.

The £107,000 worth of works was to be carried out once a contractor was appointed.

Having started in mid-November, a slight delay pushed plans back for the road's reopening.

Council Leader, Douglas Reid had hoped that the road could be opened by the end of 2022, but that wasn't to be the case.

Now East Ayrshire Council have said that early April is the target for completing the necessary works and reopening the road fully.

A spokesperson said: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that a contractor has been on site since mid-November 2022 and that arrangements are also in place for the council to make application to the court to acquire title via the Vesting Order procedure.

"Once the contractor was on site further works were identified, which has led to a slight delay.

"Based on the current programme and subject to no further unforeseen additional works arising, the council anticipates that the project will be completed by early April and at that point the road closure will be lifted."
