The identity of a 77-year-old man who died in a horror crash on the A76 this week has been revealed.

Robert Young from Auchinleck - known as Bobby - was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash involving two cars near Catrine on Wednesday, January 4.

The crash, which happened around 7.15pm, saw a 30-year-old and a 28-year-old woman taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for around eight hours while emergency services attended the incident.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart from Ayrshire's Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are very much with Robert’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our investigations are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone with any information which may assist to contact us.”
