CUMNOCK Juniors have  strengthened their squad for the second half of the season after snapping up defender George Sewell from Largs Thistle.

The Largs local joins the Townhead Park club after working his way up the ranks at Thistle, where he played for their under 21 side.

He made the step up to the first team in the latter half of the 2018/19 season, featuring in a few league matches prior to their appearance in the Scottish Junior Cup final, in which he did not appear.

Since making the breakthrough into Stuart Davidson's side, Sewell has continued to impress both defensively and going forward - featuring in both central defensive and full back roles.

He made the headlines earlier this season with a wonder goal in Thistle's cup tie against Beith Juniors, which saw him complete a couple of 'keepy ups' before volleying into the top corner from 25 yards out.

He will now join Brian McGinty's side on a two-and-a-half year deal - bolstering their defensive options.

The club confirmed the move today, January 6, on social media.

A statment read: "We are delighted go announce the signing of George Sewell from Largs.

"George joins on a two and half year deal and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's match v Irvine Meadow.

"We would like to thank all at Largs for their professionalism during this transfer."
