A New Cumnock fuel station has strongly denied social media claims that its customers are being ripped off.

A post on social media appeared to claim that drivers were being "robbed blind" at the New Cumnock Service Station Gulf garage on Castle.

An image with the post showed a plastic drum half-filled with diesel, with the person who posted it claiming to have bought the fuel at the "New Cumnock garage" and alleging the pump "kicks in at £1.84-plus".

But the station's owners say motorists are always charged the correct price - and have asked customers not to give verbal abuse to the facility's staff.

They also say they hope to begin upgrading work later this month if the January weather allows.

A spokesperson for the garage said in a Facebook post: "Regarding a post that has been put up I can assure everyone that you are not being ripped off.

"The pump only registers what has been pumped out, yes they are old and slow and they do jump about a bit but you are always charged the correct price.

"If you disagree with this then please contact trading standards as they are the only ones who can verfiy this, they have already been but I’m sure they will come again.

"Please don’t come in and shout at staff.

"Weather permitting work will be starting on pumps/forecourt on 16th January."
