Drongan residents should soon have a normal water supply, after days of issues, according to Scottish Water.

People in the village have been having issues ever since last week's freakish weather, which caused pipes to freeze and water supplies to be cut off.

To combat this, bottled water pick-ups were arranged in Drongan for those who needed it.

The issue affected people as far out as Ochiltree and Rankinston, with many becoming impatient about the length of time it was taking to solve the issues and restore the water supply.

However, an update today from Scottish Water says that engineers have been hard at work to solve the issues, and the troubles should now be behind them.

A spokesperson said: "Prolonged severe winter weather conditions caused impacts on some customers normal water supplies in parts of Ayrshire.

"Customers in the village of Drongan and surrounding areas including, Ochiltree, Sinclairston and Rankinston should all now be back in supply after disruption following the freeze and the rapid thaw that followed.

"Scottish Water engineers have been working hard to restore and maintain supplies including locating and repairing leaks, and bringing additional supplies into the network."

The cold weather was causing issues across Ayrshire, with schools and work buildings being forced to close as a result of the sub-zero temperatures.

The Scottish Water spokesperson added: "We have carried out the rapid refurbishment of a key water tank earlier than planned to help improve the situation and we will be closely monitoring the network.

"The bottled water collection point at Drongan Pharmacy has now been removed as we start to return to a normal service.

"We appreciate the frustration felt by customers over the past few days and we sincerely apologise for the interruptions they have experienced."
