Littlemill Primary School in Rankinston has had to be closed today due to issues with the heating.

It comes as East Ayrshire Council have said they are inundated with messages from tenants about issues caused by the sub-zero temperatures.

Many schools have been forced to close this week, or send pupils home early.

Netherthird, Logan and Auchinleck primaries were just a few of the schools affected by the cold weather.

An East Ayrshire Council statement read: "We are having to close Littlemill Primary and Early Childhood Centre due to issues with the heating.

"Parents have been informed. Any young person who cannot return home early will be supervised. We hope to have engineers on site soon to rectify the problem."

But it's not just the schools who have been experiencing issues.

The local authority have said they are getting a high number of messages and calls from concerned residents who have heating or water issues.

Another spokesperson added: "We're receiving a high number of weather related repair requests, mainly where our tenants have no heating/hot water or frozen pipes.

"Our teams are working round the clock to respond within our usual 24 hour target time but the large volume of repairs is causing delays.

"We are supplying heaters and drinking water where required. Information on frost precaution and actions you can take to deal with frozen pipes can be found at: https://orlo.uk/TwY0I

"Our tenants should contact the Risk Management Centre on 01563 555555 during normal working hours if they need assistance. For emergency repairs outside normal working hours, please call our Emergency helpline on 0345 724 0000.

"This will allow our staff to plan and prioritise repairs appropriately ensuring an efficient response for our most vulnerable tenants.
