Coalfields Regeneration Trust's Coalfields Worx (CRT Worx) team have been out in East Ayrshire helping out during the frosty weather.

CRT Worx was launched by CRT last year and provides employment for one year for young people from East Ayrshire’s coalfield areas.

The project supports one supervisor and three young people to engage in a variety of training and upskilling opportunities.

During the sub-zero temperatures, the team members were out in Dalmellington and Bellsbank, helping to grit the roads and pavements, showing their wonderful community spirit.

In Dalmellington, the team focused on the area around Highcroft Sheltered Housing, as well as some of the main paths in the town.

Their work then extended to Bellsbank, where they again covered some of the icy paths with some grit and salt, to help anyone walking in the area.

The group is focused on supporting local groups and people across the coalfields communities in developing and growing their own food through allotments or poly tunnels, cleaning up areas that have been neglected and generally helping local people with community regeneration projects.

Stuart Douglas Head of Operations in Scotland said previously about the project: “This project focuses on the need for training and upskilling of our young people within coalfield areas.

"Combining this need with greening activity that meets community need is a win-win for the young people and the areas they work in.”
