SCOTTISH Rugby have paid a touching tribute to a Largs father of two who was tragically killed in a road accident in the town earlier this year.

Euan Thomson was involved a collision on the A760 road between Largs and Kilbirnie when out cycling to his work in August.

A special feature appeared in the official matchday programme for Scotland's glamour match with the All Blacks at Murrayfield, which was attended by Euan's family.

The tribute, under the headline 'Euan Thomson 27/11/89-10/8/22 - Always Remembered', told of the Largs man's love of the sport and his family.

It said: "Euan was a very good athlete who was preparing for his first iron man event. He made the 50 mile trip to and from his work in Glasgow most days, where he had recently been promoted to senior project manager.

"On a beautiful summer's morning on August 10, Euan left as normal but did not return to his wife Liz and two sons, Barclay, four, and Carter, two, after he was involved in a crash with a van on the A760 Largs to Kilbirnie road.

"Ardrossan Accies, for whom Euan played for more than a decade and was a great servant to the club, have since placed his number, which was four, on the right sleeve of their shirts.

"Euan was also a committed fan of the Scotland national team, attending most men's games including, including bringing Barclay to our fantastic win over England in the Calcutta Cup.

"Euan was a stalwart for The British Heart Foundation and raised large sums for them over the years, tirelessly working for others as true gentleman he was."

Euan's father Kim and brothers Jamie and Andrew were invited by the SRU as their special guests watch the match, with Euan's intended seat left empty, with a strip placed there to represent him."

Ardrossan Accies this week said that the Scottish Rugby programme piece was 'a great tribute to one of life’s true gents'.

Euan was well known and loved locally and was a popular figure around the town.

He featured for many years as part of Accies first XV side, and often played alongside his younger brother Jamie.
