Cumnock's Townhead Strollers have raised £1,000 for charity.

Teaming up with Carrick Walking Football Club, the team raised the cash to go towards Prostate Cancer UK, after taking part in a number of fund-raising activities.

Last week, they officially handed over the cheque for the incredible sum of money to charity representative, Ian Cassels.

The money will help fund lifesaving research and vital support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.

A team spokesperson was over the moon with the effort.

They said: "Townhead Strollers have been raising funds recently in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

"We had a sponsored penalty shoot-out and asked our friends and family for donations.

"Our walking football friends at Carrick WFC heard of our plans and joined in with us and together we raised an amazing sum.

"On behalf of Townhead Strollers and Carrick WFC we had an official presentation of £1,000 to Ian Cassels, the local Prostate Cancer UK representative.

"The money will help fund lifesaving research and vital support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.

"We would like to thank everyone for their donations and let them know that their support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

"Our top stroller of the day was Kenny Riddell. We were all delighted to see Kenny back today having a wee blether and enjoying the social side after a wee spell out.

"Ian Mason picked up the "Gullit" Award this week.

"And Iain Mitchell received the golden boot for winning the penalty shoot-out.

"Fantastic day all round with 20 players there today including a new player, John Little, who settled in really well."
