Drivers have been venting their fury at the "lack of work" taking place on the A76 Howford Bridge job.

Essential repair works are being carried out on the bridge, and will last until December.

Investigation work was carried out in September due to drainage issues being identified on the bridge.

The findings from these investigations have informed the permanent repair programme, which on completion, will benefit around 8,623 vehicles using this route each day.

Temporary traffic lights will remain in place on a 24/7 basis along the northbound carriageway until Saturday, December 10.

Roads team Amey, who are carrying out the work, have said that any work is weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

For this reason, locals have blasted the team for "not taking advantage of the dry weather", as the road was not being worked on this morning (Thursday, October 10).

One driver said: "They carried out work here last year and now they're having to have another extended go at it this year.

"They bang on about how the weather can affect the work. Well I drove over the bridge today and there was not a single worker on it and the weather was absolutely fine. It's not the first time that nobody has been working on it.

"Coming into November and December, you surely have to take advantage of any dry weather you can get.

"For the road to be left alone at 11 o'clock on a Thursday morning when the roads are fairly quiet is a ridiculous decision.

"I don't think anyone will be surprised if or when these roadworks will get its date pushed back again.

"It seems like the Howford Bridge is Amey's kryptonite and they just can't seem to solve the issues with it".

Amey have been contacted for comment on this.
