An 86-mile diversion is in place from this week for drivers on the A76.

Maintenance on the A76 at Enterkinfoot was due to begin on Monday (November 7), but due to adverse weather, it began a day later.

The exact work will take place from 1.2km north of Coshogle Farm to 250m south of the Auchenmulleran Burn until Saturday, November 26, 2022.

The £737,411 work will be carried out using a combination of overnight and weekend closures. The weekend closure element is required for deeper reconstruction of the carriageway, unfortunately due to the narrow lane widths within the extents it would not be feasible for traffic to pass these locations during and following the surfacing operation.

A full weekend road closure will be in place from 7pm on Friday, November 11 until 6am on Monday, November 14 2022.

There will be overnight road closures in place from Monday, November 14 until Friday, November 18 between the hours of 7pm and 6am. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Saturday, November 19 for the remainder of the weekend.

Finally, there will be overnight closures between Monday, November 21 and Friday, November 25, 2022 between the hours of 7pm and 6am, each night.

Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Saturday, November 26 2022.

During these road closures, the following diversion route will apply:

  • A76 northbound traffic will exit the A76 by turning right on to the C133N Holestane Road near Drumlanrig Castle. From here traffic will turn left on to the A702, north of Carronbridge and will continue in a northerly direction to Abington Services Roundabout where it will join the B7078. Traffic will then continue to Millbank and will turn left on to the A70 eastbound, Ayr Road towards Cumnock. Traffic will be able to re-join the A76 at Dettingen Roundabout.
  • A76 southbound traffic will take the exit at Dettingen Roundabout to join the A70 through Cumnock and from here will join the B7078 and will then proceed to Abington Services. Traffic will then take the A702 southbound to Carronbridge. Traffic wishing to head north on the A76 will be directed south to Thornhill Roundabout where they will be able to turn and travel in a northerly direction.
