Essential repair work will be carried out on the A76's Howford Bridge, which will run into December.

Investigation work was carried out in September due to drainage issues being identified on the bridge.

The findings from these investigations have informed the permanent repair programme, which on completion, will benefit around 8,623 vehicles using this route each day.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on a 24/7 basis along the northbound carriageway until Saturday, December 10.

Repairs to the southbound carriageway will then take place in early 2023.

All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

Angus Bruce, Amey Bridge Manager for the South-West Trunk Road Network, said: “A bridge inspection identified that excess water has been pooling on the bridge, resulting in damage to the carriageway.

"Our intention is to develop a drainage solution, which will ensure that excess water is being safely directed away from the bridge deck and that any water that does land on the bridge can be dealt with by the existing bridge drainage and waterproofing system.

“While this repair scheme is developed for this structure, temporary traffic lights will remain in place on the A76 Howford Bridge to ensure the continued safety of road operatives and the travelling public.

"We thank road users for their patience and understanding while this essential maintenance takes place.”
