Following the Ayrshire derby between Kilmarnock and Ayr United on February 9, 2022 Colin McCue took ill on Rugby Road as he and his son were leaving the ground.

He later passed away in Crosshouse Hospital in the early hours of the following morning.

Son Scott McCue said: “The kindness, love and support the family have received from both football clubs, fans and well-wishers have been a great comfort since Dad’s passing and I’d like to try and repay that kindness in some way.”

So that led Scott to come up with ‘the Ayrshire Derby marathon’ where he would run approximately 26 miles from Rugby Park, Kilmarnock to Somerset Park, Ayr.

He completed this in an effort to raise funds, which he would give back to community projects run by both Ayr and Kilmarnock, in memory of his father.

Last weekend, Scott completed the challenge, after six months of hard training.

At the time of writing, Scott has raised an astounding £6,090.
