A THREE-MONTH amnesty for Ayrshire residents to hand over soon-to-be-banned weapons to police ends today (Friday, September 30).

More than a dozen weapons are on the list - they are already illegal to have outdoors, but will soon be banned in people's homes as well.

The amnesty period, during which time people can give up weapons on the list anonymously and without further enquiry, ends at 5pm on Friday.

The weapons that will soon become illegal are as follows:

Balisong or Butterfly knife

Belt buckle knife

Blowpipe or Blow gun

Cyclone knife or Spiral knife

Flick knife or flick gun

Footclaw

Gravity knife

Ayrshire residents can hand in weapons on the list at the police stations in Saltcoats, Irvine, Kilbirnie, Kilmarnock, Cumnock and Ayr.

If you cannot get to a listed police station for accessibility reasons, call 101.

Explain why you’re calling and which listed police station you would like to give up your weapon to.
