Bosses at Cumnock's Visions Leisure Centre have said that any swimming classes or lessons missed because of the pool's unexpected closure will be honoured - and that extra sessions will be programmed to compensate.

The pool has been closed for several days after boiler issues at the centre were discovered last weekend.

At the time of writing, the pool is currently closed due to boiler issues in the centre over the weekend.

It's hoped that the pool can be reopened this weekend.

The closure led to some uncertainty about swimming lessons that had been booked and were currently outstanding.

However, Kaye Hannah, the centre's chairperson, said "Staff have been working incredibly hard to get things back to normal as quickly as we can."

Kaye continued: "I understand people's concerns about classes and lessons, but those people can be assured that as soon as we are back up and running any backlogged lessons will be delivered.

"It's in the pipeline that we will get a new biomass connection and new boilers installed.

"Our board were aware plant was ageing and started conversations about five or six years ago.

"We have been proactive and had discussions with East Ayrshire Council during the planning to build the new school.

"EAC had approved financial support to fund the installation of new plant and connection to the Barony Campus biomass prior to the pandemic.

"However, this has all been significantly delayed.

"Meanwhile, throughout the pandemic and up to date, our boilers have worked continuously.

"Old plant is unreliable and in the current climate it is difficult to source bespoke parts.

"We have found today that as one part gets fixed, another causes concern."

A reopening of the pool might not be too far away, as Chilli Refrigeration Engineers are on site daily, and according to Visions, some progress has been made since Wednesday night.

Kaye added: "The water temperature is gradually starting to rise. There are, however, other pieces of kit not functioning as we would like.

"We aim to get this addressed and hope to open for Saturday.

"Would like to thank our loyal customers and parents for their patience. Staff have appreciated their support."

Kaye said that the centre's manager, Anne Hendry, and her staff have worked hard to try and keep people informed and fix the problem.

"We look forward to resuming pool entry as soon as we possibly can," Kaye added.
