Plans are progressing for 33 new holiday lodges to be built near New Cumnock.

An application was originally submitted to East Ayrshire Council last October by Oberdarn Property & Land.

The application would see 33 new lodges built close to New Cumnock, along Boig Road, close to its junction with Cairn Hill.

The plans would also see the creation of between 64 and 69 parking spaces, including electric charging points.

A visual impact assessment was submitted to the council earlier this month, to show how the impact of the development could be mitigated.

Plans to plant trees around the site, would aim to reduce any natural visual impact.

The assessment read: "The intention would be to commence planting of trees and shrubs during the same construction phase as the infrastructure of below ground services, drainage, roads and lodge bases.

"Early fencing works and planting will ensure that the trees and shrubs are becoming established prior to placing the lodge units and letting of lodges for tourist accommodation.

"Each lodge will be self-suficient, providing self-catering accomodation with showers and kitchens. The development would also provide for electric car charging points within the site.

"The traffic generation of the site is low and thus would not represent a traffic capacity issue on the road network."

According to the proposals, the lodges would have a mixture of one, two and three bedrooms, with a lounge, kitchen and bathroom in each lodge.

Some would be fitted with an outdoor seating area and five would be wheelchair accessible.

The lodges would be available to rent for short breaks of three days midweek, four days of the weekend, or seven days.

Entrance to the new site would be via an existing private access road on Boig Road, which was previously used as part of the Auchencross/ Rigghead opencast coal facility.
