Fuel garages in Auchinleck and Cumnock have been doing their bit to drive down petrol prices in the area.

As recently as June this year, some prices in the area were as high as 185.9p per litre of petrol, leading to East Ayrshire having one of the highest fuel increases in the country.

However, since then locals have been basking in decline of the prices, with garages in the area pricing below the 150p per litre mark.

Cumnock's Central Garage and JK Thomson and Sons garage are currently priced at 148.9p per litre of petrol- meaning they have dropped around by around 38p since June.

Auchinleck's Bridgend Garage isn't far behind, with their petrol coming in at 149.9p per litre.

These prices are lower than the closest supermarket prices of Kilmarnock's Asda, which is priced at 153.9p per litre.

Despite the welcomed drop in petrol prices, diesel drivers have not been afforded quite the same luxury.

While petrol has dropped around38p since the end of June, diesel has only dropped by around 12p per litre.

At one stage in June, petrol at Auchinleck's Bridgend Garage was priced at 1p higher per litre than diesel (186.9p compared to 185.9p).

Now petrol is priced some 24p per litre cheaper than its diesel counterpart.
