Care bosses in Cumnock are delighted with a positive report from the Care Inspectorate.

Lisalanna, found on Cumnock's Mill Bank, is a registered care home service provided by Action for Children.

The service provides care to a maximum of five young people with learning disabilities, some of whom may also have a physical disability and/or multi-sensory impairment and who may display challenging behaviour.

After a visit to the service earlier this year, the care inspectors released the results of their review, and it was overwhelmingly positive outcome.

In evaluating quality, the Watchdog uses a six-point scale where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent.

Overall, Lisalanna scored 4, with many positive findings, but some slight areas for improvement.

The key question for the service was 'How well do we support children and young people's rights and wellbeing?'.

In answering this question, the report read: "We saw caring, nurturing and attuned relationships between staff and young people. There was a strong ethos of dignity, respect and a strengths-based approach, to support young people.

"It was pleasing to hear that the service plans to formalise admissions and matching processes, to improve consistency, as part of their service action plan."

The report added: "Staff were not receiving formal supports such as supervision, team meetings and access to peer learning or development days, due to staffing levels.

"Whilst the effort and commitment from the staff and management team attempted to mitigate the impact of staffing levels, this had an impact on team morale, learning opportunities, and service improvement."

In response to the report, Fiona Steel, Action for Children’s Lead Operational Director of Children's Services said: “Our services are inspected regularly, and we are very proud of the positive ratings we receive from the Care Inspectorate.

"Underpinning the results is a lot of hard work and commitment from our staff who embody the values and passion Action for Children has in supporting children, families and young people.

“This was especially evident throughout the lockdown and beyond when our staff went over and above the call of duty to ensure the families we work with always received the care and support they needed.”
